In Atlanta, there are few relationships as sacred as that between a Midtowner and their coffee shop.

Whether your new to the neighborhood or just looking for a change of pace, there are plenty of good options to choose from — but for some coffee lovers, “good coffee” isn’t quite good enough.  For aficionados, these are the three best coffee shops in Midtown, Atlanta.

“When it’s time to eat, eat with Joy” reads the homepage for Joy Cafe (the local passion project from renown Chef Joy Beber) — and no other statement more perfectly exemplifies the philosophy of this relative newcomer to the Midtown coffee scene.  Everything here is presented with meticulous care and expertise, and while you wait for your table you can relax at the coffee bar with a deliciously rich cup of joe.  If you haven’t already, give Joy Cafe a visit (maybe on a weekday, to avoid the crowds) and experience the cafe that Midtown has been raving about.

The upscale Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe is one of the more pleasing places in Atlanta to spend a relaxing afternoon.  Their Midtown location offers a variety of sweets, bubble teas, and coffee drinks (including their famous Vietnamese Coffee), all inspired by the Asian culinary experience of founder and executive chef Howie Ewe.  With over a hundred bakery products to choose from (including Maple Bacon Donuts, Vanilla Hokkaido Cupcakes, and Coconut Butterfly Buns!), Sweet Hut has something for everyone.  The comfortable outdoor patio is the perfect spot to people-watch while enjoying some of the sweeter things in life!

Calling themselves “a community restaurant that appeals to a broad range”, Empire State South carved its niche by (1) being one of the most well-designed spaces in Midtown, and (2) offering Atlantans their three favorite things: booze, beans, and bocce ball.  For coffee lovers, there are few beans as celebrated as those by Chicago roaster Intelligentsia, and the baristas at Empire State prepare their roasts to full, flavorful effect.  The iced coffee, in particular, is smooth, refreshing, and perfect for a hot summer day.

Honorable mentions include the Revelator west side location (for their formidable espresso and knowledgeable staff) and Land of a Thousand Hills (for their personally-crafted beverages and wide, comfortable space for getting some work done).  Whatever your preference, Midtown has the coffee shop you’ve been searching for!
