It’s that time of year here in Atlanta… the weather starts to chill, the days feel shorter, and all we really want to do is get cozy on the couch and watch a classic Christmas movie. Sounds like the picture-perfect afternoon! But if you’re looking to change it up a little and experience a live holiday show, here are a few that are worthy of buying a ticket for and watching from a theater seat instead of at home!

Home Alone in Concert | 11/30 – 12/1

‘Tis the season for shamelessly singing along to Christmas carols. The festive holiday cheer follows us in the car, while shopping at the mall, when wrapping presents and pretty much everywhere throughout the holidays. So why not sing along and watch one of your Christmas favorites this holiday season at the Atlanta Symphony Hall’s Home Alone in Concert. You could watch this holiday classic from your couch, or you could take the experience to the next level and watch it with live musical performances from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra accompanying the screening.

Cirque Dreams Holidaze| 11/30 – 12/1

Maybe you’re in the mood for a little more of a jaw-dropping, ‘how did they do that’, hang on to the edge of your seat performance while you’re out celebrating the holidays. If you nodded along to those descriptions, then you might want to mark your calendars for the Cirque Dreams Holidaze show at the Fox Theatre. Broadway Director Neil Goldberg brings the Fox Theatre stage to life with cirque artists and performances that will leave you in awe as acrobats soar through the air and experiences that seem too impressive to simply be “holiday magic.” The two-hour spectacle includes 300 festive costumes, 20 acts, and sounds of the season that you won’t want to miss.

Atlanta Ballet, The Nutcracker | 12/7 – 12/13

Back for the final year, the Atlanta Ballet presents The Nutcracker at the Fox Theatre, orchestrated by the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra. Experience the thrill of a true holiday tradition coming to life before your eyes in this stunning performance. The stage, the melody, and the elaborate visuals will leave you speechless, and will likely ruin the chance of you ever watching The Nutcracker on a TV screen again.

Don’t get us wrong, we know that curling up on the couch with a glass of wine and a Christmas movie is pretty much the best way to end a busy day of holiday shopping, baking, and cooking. But sometimes the experience is elevated with a live performance, and these are a few holiday classics that are worthy of planning a night out for! Let us know how you enjoyed the shows on Facebook and Instagram, and keep following the blog here for more local happenings here in Atlanta!
